Theresa Reynolds delivers a dynamic, high-action wildlife scene capturing a bald eagle mid-strike over a rushing mountain river. With outspread wings spanning the canvas, the eagle swoops low to snatch a trout from the water's surface, creating a dramatic explosion of spray and splash. In the background, mist-shrouded evergreen mountains rise beneath a cloudy sky, evoking the raw, untamed spirit of the Pacific Northwest.
The artwork is built around a powerful diagonal axis created by the eagle’s downward dive and extended talons. This strong directional line draws the eye instantly from the top-right wingtip down to the focal point: the striking moment of contact between predator and prey. The contrast between the broad, solid wing structure and the fluid, chaotic movement of the water adds intense energy and narrative tension to the piece.
Reynolds’ painterly oil style shines in her handling of light and texture. Warm tans and dark chocolate browns along the eagle’s feathers stand out sharply against the cool turquoise and froth-white tones of the turbulent river. Soft, atmospheric blending in the distant pines creates a realistic sense of depth, allowing the crisp detail on the eagle's white head, sharp yellow beak, and intense gaze to command full attention.
