Winter Guardians

Theresa Reynolds captures a heartwarming yet rugged moment of wilderness life in this snow-draped mountain landscape. Positioned on a rocky, snow-dusted outcrop, a mother cougar (Puma concolor) rests beside her growing cub, both casting their attentive gaze toward the distant horizon. The pristine snow and evergreen trees create a peaceful, crisp winter setting that emphasizes the quiet resilience of North American wildlife.

Reynolds’ painterly style strikes a beautiful balance between realism and expressive oil texture. Soft, blended brushstrokes build the atmospheric haze of the distant snowy pines, while crisp, defined highlights delineate the muscular build of the mother, the fine facial details, and the soft fluff of the cub’s coat. The overall result is a captivating, emotionally grounded wildlife portrait that feels both tranquil and majestic
